Earlier this month, Toys “R” Us executives gave an unexpected announcement that they were planning to bring back the company after what seemed like its end a few months ago. However, most other toy retailers are very skeptical and doubtful.
As Warren Shoulberg of Forbes said, “Past attempts to bring back a long list of retail brands that succumbed for a variety of reasons are not exactly encouraging. Radio Shack stands as only the most recent victim to this kind of strategy.”
He also mentioned that if Toys “R” Us is able to make a successful comeback, it will not be an easy journey. He added that the company will “encounter a different marketplace than it faced even two years ago” and that its main competitors — Target, Walmart, and Amazon — have all been innovating and upping their toy retail game.
In addition, Shoulberg said, “But the toy business is literally in devastation mode from the Toys downfall in a way few other industries have been. Because it was the №1 seller of products in the category, everything it did impacted everything everybody else did in the space.”
