While some people are impatiently awaiting the day they can finally (physically) go back to work, some are really digging this whole work from home thing.

Twitter acknowledges the many benefits of WFH and has made the decision to allow employees to work from home forever, if they want to. The news was announced via an email from Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey.

The company confirmed with TechCrunch via email, describing their decision with the following quote:

We were uniquely positioned to respond quickly and allow folks to work from home given our emphasis on decentralization and supporting a distributed workforce capable of working from anywhere. The past few months have proven we can make that work. So if our employees are in a role and situation that enables them to work from home and they want to continue to do so forever, we will make that happen. If not, our offices will be their warm and welcoming selves, with some additional precautions, when we feel it’s safe to return.

The offices reopening will be a slow and calculated process that will not start for the most part before September. After that point, it’s up to employees to decide when — if ever — they want to return to the physical offices.

This seems like a great move that is very much in line with the flexibility that younger generations entering the workforce desire. Essentially, it’s allowing people to work on their own terms in ways that they feel are most productive. I’m expecting pretty good things to come from this. If you give someone the freedom to do what they need to do to succeed, they probably will.
