In an insightful fireside chat session, Oracle’s CAPS Director Nestor Camilo joined Aamar Hussain, Microsoft’s Director of Azure Data to discuss AI and Multicloud. Keep reading for the highlights of their conversation.

Oracle AI platform

Nestor started the presentation off by claiming that in-database machine learning makes ML modeling and deployment faster and more secure since they are scalable, can provide instant deployment, and require no data movement. Hence they can make timely and accurate predictions and recommendations.

Nestor then introduced the Oracle AI platform, which provides SaaS Applications, OAC and other third-party applications, Business AI, AI services, Data Science Services, and OCI data platform.

Oracle Autonomous Database furthermore optimizes and extends data-driven apps with automation and built-in data management with their simplified database management, high performance and high availability, complete data protection, and security, and built-in data management tools.

Oracle Machine Learning

Oracle Machine Learning (OML) has ML embedded in Autonomous Database with support for SQL and Python. The system is automated, scalable, and production-ready.

Nestor talked about the pipeline of OML AutoML UI Experiment, which starts with entering data into the system, using auto algorithm selection to identify in-database algorithms likely to achieve higher model quality, adaptive sampling to identify the right sample size for training data, auto feature selection to do-noise data, reduce features by identifying most predictive, and improve accuracy and performance, and auto model tuning to improve model accuracy. Finally, the OML model will be deployed.

Oracle Database Service for Microsoft Azure

After their collaboration a few years ago, the OCI-Azure interconnect created the network foundation. Their operation is across 11 regions with lower than 2-millisecond latency private interconnection, no egress or ingress charges for data, and an end-to-end secure crypted tunnel.

So how does Oracle Database Service for Azure work?

First, both accounts are provided with guided cloud-to-cloud setup and configuration. Then you can do provision and operate OCI database services. Finally, you’ll have database access and managed connectivity.

Oracle Database Services for Azure have two benefits:

  1. Seamless and secure interoperability
  2. Enterprise-grade cloud services

Nestor also shared that businesses have achieved better results running databases on OCI. Aamar stated that customers could reap many benefits from both OCI and Azure. He also believed this partnership had demystified the myth that you can’t run applications across two clouds. There’s no need for deep skills in either platform and complex configurations, which has made it easier for customers to run their businesses in the cloud and has proven to be absolutely valuable.
