Wreck League — Day 1

--

Welcome to Wreck League, an entirely new project that marks the next chapter in the evolution of fighting games, competitive gaming, and esports. Developed by nWay in partnership with Animoca Brands–and featuring Yuga Labs as our Season 1 collaborator, with more marquee brands to come–Wreck League is the most ambitious Web3 gaming venture to date.

Build Your Ultimate Fighter

Wreck League is about using NFT-minted parts to build mechs that compete in Web3’s first real-time player-versus-player (PvP) fighting game competitions. Fighting games traditionally have a set roster of fighters for players to choose from and pit against one another. Wreck League is changing that: each fighter is a mech NFT crafted and owned by its creator, composed of 10 distinctive NFT parts that determine how the mech will play and look in battle. Each owner chooses which 10 parts go into each mech they build, resulting in more than 1.5 quadrillion possible combinations of fighters to encounter in the arena for Season 1.

Assembled mech NFTs can be disassembled, and their 10 parts can then be used to augment or create other mechs, or sold on a marketplace, like OpenSea. Endless customization ensures each mech will have its own unique visual and play style for owners to take into various game events and tournaments, to compete for the best on-chain prizes. By building a formidable fleet of mech fighters, owners are preparing to meet any challenge that comes their way: the more mechs you build, customize, and compete with, the greater your rewards and accolades.

Season 1: Collaboration with Yuga

Season 1, kicks off today showcasing our collaboration with Yuga Labs, as Wreck League joins The Extended Yugaverse of Bored Ape and Otherside. In Season 1, Wreck League will incorporate four Yuga collections: Bored Ape Yacht Club, Mutant Ape Yacht Club, Bored Ape Kennel Club, and Kodas. All holders of these four collections will be able to claim a free Founders Mech containing a fully constructed mech that will not be able to be deconstructed.

Special, rare mech parts featuring each of these iconic brands can be assembled into Yuga mechs, or mixed and matched with Wreck League mech parts to create Yuga mech–enhanced original creations, in the Wreck League Garage. Players can use Yuga mechs and mech parts to enhance their gameplay and add an element of exclusivity to their mech collection.

Starting with Yuga as our Season 1 collaborator sets a high standard. Each new season, we’ll bring more top-tier Web3 and Web2 brands into Wreck League, increasing the variety of mechs and mech parts you’ll have access to and keeping the competition exciting. We’ll announce our Season 2 plans in the coming months.

A Game Made by Gamers

Those high standards extend to the game itself. Wreck League is a AAA-quality real-time PvP fighting game, with mobile and PC cross-play functionality and both Web3 and Web2 builds. Players compete against one another in various events and tournaments with the custom mechs they’ve built. The Web3 build will launch as soon as holders can mint and build their mechs, serving as the gateway into exciting ongoing competition among mech owners, and valuable on-chain rewards.

The Web2 build will launch later as a complete free-to-play game that will allow mech NFT owners and creators to manufacture in-game mechs they can sell to gamers as in-app purchases.

Below, you’ll find more details about key components of Wreck League, including what you need to know about the upcoming Genesis Mint, and future mints. Consider this a primer; over the coming weeks, we’ll publish more and more-in depth posts on specific aspects of the game, the mechs, the events, the rewards, and more.

EVERYTHING ABOUT THE MECHS

Mech ownership is the keystone of Wreck League. Mechs are constructed from 10 digital mech parts, such as arms, chest, head, legs, shoulders, kneepads, satellite, and accessories, each with a specific utility for combat. Parts can be swapped with other mech parts of that particular type, giving players creative freedom to customize their mechs at a highly granular level of specificity. The goal is to build a fleet of mechs that will perform at peak level (ideally) in various events and competitions, against a wide range of other players’ mech builds and playstyles.

3 MINTS AND 3 TOURNAMENTS

There will be three opportunities to mint Season 1 mech parts in the coming months. In each mint, players can purchase boxes containing the parts used to build and mint mechs in the Garage. These parts will be a combination of Wreck League and Yuga-themed parts, split across three minting events. After the part is revealed (see Mint Details, below), mechs and mech parts can be bought and sold through a marketplace (i.e., OpenSea).

Players can also win mechs and mech parts by participating in various competitions that will be playable as soon as mech assembly in the Garage opens. Players own the parts, which can be collected and used to build more mechs, or sold to other players who are pining for the one piece that might give their mech a boost on the battlefield, or complete the look and design they’re striving to achieve. And there will be ultra-rare prizes and special 1-of-1 NFTs for the top competitors in these post-mint tournaments.

MECH PARTS = SKILLS + STATS

Mechs can be viewed as a collection of skills and stats. Some parts grant you basic attacks, while other parts grant you special skills, an improved energy meter, better block duration, etc. Together, these jointly determine what your mech’s playstyle will be. This means players can design their own mech’s available combos by selecting the parts that contain the actions that, put together, form those combos. This also means that the way you design your mech is just as important as your in-game playing skills.

The parts used to assemble a mech will determine how the mech will perform in battle, and because certain skills and stats perform better against other skills and stats, it would be strategically beneficial to assemble multiple types of mechs, each optimized for different types and styles of play.

Wreck League will start with 1 vs. 1 fights, but will eventually evolve to include 3 vs. 3 events for which you’ll need a diverse roster of mechs to participate. Additionally, specific types of events and tournaments will require a certain number of mechs in order to compete. The more mechs you own, the more opportunities to engage in for better rewards.

OUR COLLABORATION WITH YUGA LABS

Wreck League is part of The Extended Yugaverse of Bored Ape / Otherside. We worked with the team at Yuga Labs to craft the lore that integrates Yuga’s characters into Wreck League’s universe, including some of the main characters from Bored Ape, Kennel Club, and the Otherside. Curtis, Jimmy, Gary, and Blue (Otherside) all appear in the story, along with a cast of new characters, both from the Bored Ape universe as well as those indigenous to Wreck League.

There are 20 unique mech parts for each of the four Yuga collections, so 80 parts in total that can be mixed and matched to create an almost endless array of Yuga mechs. There are two full mech sets for each of the four Yuga collections. Each design is heavily influenced by the original source material, fusing colors, objects, shapes, and personality into every element, creating fully realized battle-ready mechs.

The Yuga mech parts will be distributed in the primary box mint sales across three mints, starting with Koda mechs in Mint 1, Kennel Club and Mutant Ape mechs in Mint 2, and finally, Bored Ape mechs in Mint 3.

Mint 1 — The Genesis Mint — Kodas

Koda mechs reference a range of Koda designs, piecing together familiar elements that have not been combined in any other collection. With alien-like forms, advanced weaponry, and an enigmatic presence, these formidable machines stand as a testament to Koda’s mysterious spirit.

Mint 2 — MAYC & BAKC

The MAYC mechs pay homage to the distinctive mutated Apes, with a striking color palette, mutant-inspired design elements, and an array of interchangeable appendages. Whether it’s the centipede-shaped sword from MAYC or the crowned king of the Kennel, these mechs showcase the extraordinary diversity of The Extended Yugaverse.

The Kennel Club mechs are a captivating fusion of dog and machine. These robotic marvels combine sleek lines, canine-inspired features, and a range of expressive expressions, capturing the lovable charm and loyalty of our furry friends. From their powerful mechanical limbs to their emotive digital eyes, these mechs pay homage to the bond between humans and dogs, inviting collectors to embark on an adventure filled with love and companionship (via head-to-head combat in the fiery crucible).

Mint 3 — BAYC

The Bored Ape Yacht Club mechs embody the essence of artistic expression and creativity. With their laid-back chill vibe, these mechs are designed to look like they just as well could be lounging by the pool, but don’t let the calm demeanor fool you–they are imposing adversaries in the arena.

MINT DETAILS: BOXES, RARITIES, CLAIMING, AND ASSEMBLY

There are multiple ways to obtain the parts to construct your Wreck League mechs. The first is by purchasing Wreck League boxes containing mech parts during the three different minting events over the coming months. Different boxes contain different parts of different rarities.

The Mech Box Collection

Our mint offering includes two types of boxes: Majestic Boxes and Booster Boxes. A Majestic Box contains 10 random parts you can use to assemble a full mech from scratch. A Booster Box consists of 5 random mech parts you can use to augment an existing mech or apply toward building a new mech. Together, the boxes add an element of surprise and chance to the collecting experience: purchasing one Majestic Box guarantees you 10 parts to create a mech, while purchasing two Booster boxes guarantees you 10 parts…but not necessarily the 10 parts needed to assemble a mech.

Rarity Tiers

Both boxes and mech parts themselves are unique non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The mech boxes for Season 1 are categorized into six distinct rarity tiers: common, uncommon, rare, epic, legendary, and Yuga. The rarity of the box guarantees the rarity of the parts contained within it and lifts up the rarity floor on the distribution. For example, opening a common Majestic box will grant you common parts, while opening a legendary Majestic box will yield legendary, epic, and rare parts. Yuga mech parts can only come from Majestic boxes with Yuga rarity tier.

Box Sales, Claim, and Trading

Majestic and Booster boxes will go on sale at the same time, and both can be purchased at the same time. We’ll provide more details on this in the next two weeks. Following the Genesis Mint sales phase, there will be a claim period during which Koda owners will be able to claim a free Founders Box for each of the Kodas they own for the Genesis Mint. MAYC, Kennel Club, and BAYC holders will follow the same process for Mint 2 and Mint 3.

During the sales phase, the rarity of Majestic and Booster boxes will be hidden to avoid rarity sniping. Once this phase is over, the rarity of each box will be revealed. Boxes, both before and after their rarity has been revealed, will be open to trade, allowing owners to engage in buying and selling boxes on marketplaces such as OpenSea.

Box Opening and Burning

Once the highly anticipated day arrives, owners can unlock the contents of their boxes. Upon opening, the boxes themselves will be burned and owners will be able to claim the mech parts inside. However, boxes do not open automatically, meaning owners can choose not to open their boxes. Box opening increases the scarcity of the unopened boxes, thus ensuring each unopened box itself becomes a rarity.

Assembling Mechs and Game Launch

As boxes are opened, mech parts are claimed by their respective owners. The Garage feature on the Wreck League website is specifically designed for this purpose and will allow mech owners to assemble their mechs. The more mech parts you have, the more customization options will be available. This lets you combine the exact parts you wish to create powerful bespoke mechs tailored to your specific needs. Assembled mechs are also NFTs that can be sold individually in a marketplace.

The box opening and first Wreck League game event happen on the same day, so players will not need to wait to take their mechs for a spin once assembled.

WRECK LEAGUE THE GAME

Wreck League is a gaming experience like no other, where user-generated fighters and personalized mechs take center stage. The Web3 and Web2 versions offer different experiences for players, and it’s helpful to know the mechanics of how mech assembly affects gameplay and the opportunities for mech owners to participate and earn rewards.

Web3 Version: Mech Owners Battle

Exclusive to mech NFT owners, the Web3 edition of Wreck League presents an engrossing opportunity to battle with your very own creations. Competing with a creation you uniquely possess in a live head-to-head environment is a powerful driving force that enhances and makes the competitive gaming experience more meaningful. On Box opening day, when owners will be able to obtain the parts needed to mint their mechs for the first time, the Web3 version of the game will also be unveiled. As soon as their creations are assembled, mech owners will be able to seamlessly take their mechs directly into the thrilling battles of Wreck League.

To participate, players can download the game client via our launcher, accessible on Android, Mac, and PC. The game client will serve as the gateway to exciting game events, gripping competitions, and challenging tournaments. And we particularly pride ourselves on our cross-play functionality, enabling players to engage in fierce battles against each other regardless of the devices they’re each playing on.

Mech Assembly and Unique Combos

With over 1.5 quadrillion possible combinations of mech parts, each player will have truly unique mechs at their disposal. The way you assemble your mech will determine many aspects of how it plays in battle, including its basic and special moves, ultimates, combos, energy meter, block ability, and various stats in the game. This innovative feature ensures that every battle in Wreck League is filled with diverse strategies and surprises. Prepare to showcase your creativity and tactical prowess on the battlefield!

Web3 Competitions and Rewards

Within its ecosystem, Wreck League offers an array of exhilarating competitions and game events, with various rewards for participants. From basic leaderboard competitions that ignite the competitive spirit, to exclusive special tournaments and invitationals, Wreck League ensures non-stop excitement for all participants. Structured competitive seasons will beckon players to showcase their skills, vying for a chance to claim valuable on-chain rewards. Moreover, we will be introducing innovative features that empower individual owners to host their own tournaments and game events, fostering a flourishing community of grassroots competitions centered around Wreck League.

Web3 and Esports

In the Web3 world of Wreck League, we envision participants to include creators, owners, and skilled players, all uniting to form teams, compete in the League, and strive to maximize their prize earnings. To excel in the game events and tournaments and increase their winnings, players must have both skills and finely crafted high-tier mechs. We will be launching features that make it easy for owners possessing the finest mechs to join forces with the most skilled players, forming powerful partnerships to compete at the highest echelons of the League’s diverse competitions. With this fusion of talent, ownership, and creativity in a high-quality fighting game, Wreck League is set to redefine the competitive gaming landscape.

Free-to-Play Version: Gamers and Creators Unite

The F2P version of Wreck League is designed for wider accessibility and enjoyment. This version of the game can be downloaded and played by anyone, without the need for mech NFT ownership, and follows a Free-to-Play model common in mobile and PC gaming.

But, what sets Wreck League apart is its in-game store, which will be populated by mechs created by the mech NFT owners. Essentially, mech NFT owners can create off-chain copies of their mechs as In-App-Purchase (IAP) options that are not NFTs. These user-created mechs will populate the in-game store, providing players with a wide array of mech options to enhance their gameplay experience. When a gamer purchases one of these mechs, a portion of the revenue generated will be shared with the NFT creator/owner, fostering a community-driven economy within the game.

The F2P version of Wreck League will launch later in the year. We’ll have a separate announcement for its launch.

WRECK LEAGUE COMMUNITY-BUILDING

Wreck League is a community of creators co-creating a community. Our commitment to building a hyper-community of players, collectors, and creators is real. If you’re playing the game, making art, or otherwise ready to put your stamp on Wreck League, we want you absolutely to go for it! We want everyone who engages with Wreck League to explore its lore and universe, and to be inspired to generate their own player-created content, videos, artwork, and more.

Our goal is to be broadly inclusive of players, and to assist them in becoming influential voices and contributors within the Wreck League world. This means we’ll give our community members the tools they need and the platform they deserve to showcase their talents and contributions, whether directly related to the game itself, producing video or art content, or organizing local tournaments. If you want to make an impact, we’re here to help you do it. Community-building and participation are incredibly meaningful. We believe there are so many more ways to show that than what we currently see out there. Our goal is to prove it.

We will be launching a special community program called the Wreck League Social Club, to reward and encourage co-creation. The Wreck League Social Club will be an integral piece of the Wreck League community ecosystem. It is where you’ll engage and connect with other ambassadors. And get rewarded for building the Wreck League Community!

In the meantime, join the Discord.
