Wrist Game Worldwide continues to bring kindred Black creators together to make magic. This time, HBCU graduates and southern natives DJ Magic and Beu on the Aux join forces to celebrate music legends in the making. Magic made the beats and Beu caught the vibes for review. Early in life, Atlanta-native DJ Magic discovered that unifying people through music was her passion. Since, Magic has been committed to bringing people together to create amazing musical environments and spinning even greater music.
Listening to the Wrist Game Soul Sound Mix, Beu envisions escaping on a blissful trip, journeying through what feels like Jazz on a sunny day. Produced by DJ Magic, this mix starts off with an airy, whimsical intro right out of an early 2000’s summer movie soundtrack. The cadence of percussion keeps the listener feeling upbeat. The pace then slows, taking gullah gullah guitar beats to a cooling coast of soft and soothing rhythms and creates the feeling of having a summer crush. The mix’s vocals and harmonies make the listener feel as if they are in a dream. The lyrics offer a twisted seduction. It’s honest. It’s raw.
Wrist Mix, on the other hand, transports the listener to a planet of its own. The mix opens with a darker melodic sound and soft hi-hats, with an absence of musical cliches. All of a sudden, we’re in African American studies and Khia is the instructor. The beat then rises in energy encompassing samples from M$. Tee and Pretty Ricky, hinting at the sounds of an 80s psychedelic film. Wrist Mix flows like a beat from its own drum and feels like a long island iced tea on a Brooklyn rooftop. It gives “let’s hop in the van and go” vibes as it explores the bittersweet cycle of the uncertainty of relationships. The summation of Hip-Hop, R&B, instrumentation, and emotion brings the listener back down to earth, like gravity.
DJ Magic has been sharing her love for music with party goers since 2016 in Atlanta, Georgia as well as Washington, D.C. After winning “Howard’s Hottest”, and further cementing her skills and diverse music taste, DJ Magic is a supreme addition to the Wrist Game roster. As her mixes further curate the interactive space, she effortlessly blends a variety of sounds from Black musicians across vast genres.
