The Ends of Globalization
1 min readFeb 15, 2022

Although from a moral standpoint the issuing of reparations to descendants of Slaves, Native Americans, or Colonized populations for past injuries should be encouraged, the practicality of such an action appears to be rather difficult to achieve based on the readings.

The most convincing point among the articles would be the moral and economic justifications for providing reparations to victims of colonization. The effects of colonization as an indirect result of increasing globalization has proved to be detrimental for certain populations like the Native Americans and African Americans. The overtaking of land properties that previously belonged to African American communities and the gentrification of them into properties like country clubs without financial benefits is only one among the many “crimes” committed by a majority population to a vulnerable minority group. The lack of economic opportunities for victims of colonization is a structural phenomenon that still somewhat resembles colonization in a modern context.

The least convincing point would be the issuing of reparations on a large scale, especially in the form of cash. Giving out cash in an act of charity doesn’t stand as a valid solution to the problem at all as it fails to address the root causes of inequality as a result of colonization. How to support victims of previous colonies, especially on a large scale that benefits the entire community is something that I still need to look deeper into.
