The Ends of Globalization
2 min readApr 7, 2022

My writing project will be based on the background of the increasingly threatening reality of global warming and climate change that is threatening human civilization. I believe it is necessary and urgent for countries to collaborate and act to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change, and I believe it is going to be one of the key topics in globalization, especially in the long run. What I also consider important is how this international collaboration should be balanced between the Global North and the Global South. Historically, the developed countries are more responsible for past carbon dioxide emissions, while the reliance on agriculture makes many developing countries much more fragile to extreme climates caused by global warming. Moreover, the rigid limitations on carbon dioxide emissions will interrupt the industrialization process of many developing countries that had been historically exploited by the developed countries. Therefore, the Global North ought to make compensations and even reparations to the Global South in the collective process to stop climate change. For example, by assisting the Global South with technologies that are more energy-efficient, the Global North could prevent unnecessary carbon emissions due to less efficient industrial technologies.

I would like to explore further on how exactly the compensation and reparation could be achieved as a fair solution. I will look for more detailed information and evidence that support the above statements about inequality issues in the global effort against climate change. I will also look for efforts in the past between countries that attempted to reach agreements on international carbon emission regulations. I am also interested in finding past proposals by scholars about plans to achieve a more balanced carbon emission reduction. I believe it is important and practical that our collective effort to combat climate change can also play a role in narrowing the huge gap of economic inequality across borders.
