Imagine a home with a recently widowed mother who is helped by her sister(a DJ who lives in the basement) and her crazy best friend(a party planner who was married to a race car driver) to raise her kids. It isn’t like any normal family, it is a complete mad house with unthinkable things happening each day and where hugs can never be enough. This is Fuller House a series in which three moms raise kids, get through everything together and while they are at it, have a whole lot fun. Every minute of the show is enjoyable and leaves you happy and satisfied just like a warm hug.

Sometimes a series can be so much more than just entertainment. You often tend to watch series/movies in which you see something idle like you may like romantic movies because you wish to have that connection or story as the characters in it. For similar reasons I feel Fuller House connects well with the youth in India but not at all with the older generation. There are several social taboos in India like dating after getting widowed or letting your kids date. However, this mindset is evolving and fresh opinions are being formed. Fuller House is appealing to the youth as they feel happy watching parents being okay with dating, being open to conversations about it and in general being more lenient and trusting. If this show would’ve streamed in India 10 years back no-one would’ve found it realistic. Just by seeing that a widowed mother of three goes on a date and dresses up for a night out would have made them feel awkward.

A guy who lives in a RV buys a sandwich shop, saves a legacy and makes business flourish. A teen who has an overachieving brother and doesn’t want to disappoint his mother learns that trying is what matters most. There are so many more incidents and lessons like these in this series that you can’t help but learn from them and appreciate them. You understand the importance of kindness and helping which is relatable regardless of where you are from. Additionally, in India there are large families so it feels good watching the family game nights and parties and relating to the fun they have to your memorable moments. The helping nature is also relatable as we have close knit societies so babysitting, fixing garage and things like that gives a sense of your own.

On the other hand, in India, getting good grades is still considered the only important part to success by many so when youngsters see a family who support you even if you want to become a DJ makes them feel good. You still cannot tell your parents about things in your personal life because you know they are worried about what society will think so seeing an open minded and self-satisfied family makes you happy. It’s human nature to see more of what you want. And even though the thoughts of people in India are evolving we are nowhere close to being an open minded society as other people’s mindsets still govern a lot of our actions. This is exactly why this series is appealing to the new generation of India as they want to be able to hold someones hand in public without being judged or be able to make their own choices without having to fight their family. Looking at this series and the mindset of characters in it, that is how this generation wants the people around them to be, that is how they see an idle family and that is what makes them happy.
