The Great Resignation ICEY
Although it is quite early to state anything definitive, there are likely two broad categories of workers participating in the Great Resignation. According to Martha Maznevski, a professor of organizational behavior at Ivey Business School, “One is people who are professionals, who are making a choice between ‘good’ and ‘better’. The other category is people who are making a choice between something that is really terrible, unhealthy and toxic, and survival.” The former tend to be white-collar workers and the latter blue-collar workers. Recognizing this distinction is critical in determining whether these trends are here to stay. White-collar workers will likely continue progress as they have the financial freedom and flexibility to explore other interests. The story of blue-collar workers will paint a different picture though.
