I ventured into the world of self-publishing in November 2022 and have six books under my belt. I’m now sharing insights I learned to help those who are starting out. The amount of learning can seem overwhelming in the early days. That’s the beauty of hearing from those who are further along in their journey. We can make the learning curve a little less steep for you.

Note: These tips are not in any particular order.

  1. Learn about Amazon’s software, Kindle Create, before you upload your book for publishing. In my case, I didn’t realize they had a built-in table of contents when I published my first book. I wish I had watched a YouTube tutorial or two before I got started. I’m sure the other publishing platforms like Draft2Digital have tutorials, too. Investigating before proceeding is always a good idea.
  2. Get a professional-looking cover. For my first two books, I used Amazon templates initially. They were okay, but the difference between those and the covers GetCovers made was huge. GetCovers (affiliate link) has affordable prices and does…
