Starting your new, locally-focused business should be a breeze — you’re on your home turf.

But the process can bring along a few hidden hiccups. If you’re unprepared, your new business could stop before it starts. In 2015, I learned this the hard way.

1. Your Choice of Business Name

In 2014, redundancy ended one of the best jobs I ever had.

Established in 1870, the organisation was proud of its regional company name. I treasured my time with them, and I love my home county, Cheshire, more than any other place on Earth. These factors guided my choice of name when I started working as a contractor.

I had it all worked out.
