I used to think the only way to become a better writer was to learn it, like any other skill.

By that, I mean reading books, watching videos, enrolling in courses, or hiring a mentor.

Little did I know that writing or any other creative craft can be learned by yourself.

How?

You just have to show up, do the work, and do it repeatedly.

The best way to become a better writer is to write.

I know this advice is a bit controversial. It’s also cliche now that every other story suggests you write more and be consistent.

I can only speak for myself here, but the best way I learned to improve my writing was to write 300 words daily.

My writing wasn’t good, and my words didn’t make sense. But that didn’t stop me.

I kept writing one crappy post after another.

And guess what?

I published them, too. I didn’t judge my writing. Instead, I put it out there for people to read and decide whether it’s good (or not).
