From cooking techniques to our favorite flavors of ice cream, food is something we all like to discuss. But like all popular topics, there are plenty of myths being peddled around.
Too often, people sprout these mistruths, blissfully unaware they’ve just said something that’s totally incorrect.
Thankfully, we can push back against these falsehoods with a bit of myth-busting. While some may be aware of these myths already, I suspect most of you will be surprised by what you’re about to read.
Myth #1: Hawaiian Pizza Comes From Hawaii
Given the name, you’d think Hawaiian pizza was invented in Hawaii — but it wasn’t.
Strangely enough, this notoriously divisive pizza actually originated in Ontario, Canada. A Greek-born Canadian by the name of Sam Panopoulos started selling it at his restaurant in 1962. The inspiration for this pizza came from China, for Panopoulos was keen to combine sweet and savory flavors.
So why is it called the Hawaiian pizza?
