Having written about history and culture for many years, I can tell you there’s plenty of nonsense being peddled around the world right now.

Whether it be word of mouth or social media, there are many people who regularly sprout mistruths without doing any fact-checking beforehand.

While I don’t hold any personal vendettas against these people, I do think it’s important to push back from time to time.

I heard this one constantly when I was a child. Whenever the Great Wall of China cropped up in conversation, someone — usually an adult — would pipe up and claim it could be seen from space.
