1. Shrink the habit until it’s laughable
- Want to start reading daily? Start with one page.
- Make it so small, you can’t say no.
2. Leverage temptation bundling
- Pair a habit you need with a habit you love.
- Example: Only listen to your favourite podcast while exercising.
3. Make it ridiculously inconvenient to quit
- Want to stop wasting time on your phone?
- Delete the social media apps, or keep your charger in another room.
4. Create a public commitment
- Tell others about your habit goals.
- Social pressure can be a powerful motivator.
5. Gamify your habits
- Set a point system or challenge yourself with streaks.
- Make each day feel like a win, not a chore.
6. Visualize the cost of inaction.
- Imagine where you’ll be in a year if you don’t make this change.
- Use fear of staying stuck as fuel to take action.
7. Integrate habits into your identity.
- Don’t just say, “I want to write more.”
- Tell yourself, “I am a writer,” and act like one every day.
Most people will read this and do nothing.
Don’t be most people.
People do not decide their futures, they decide their habits and their habits decide their futures.
