I was sitting in a café the other day, sipping my latte and doodling in my notebook. As I sketched a rough outline of a flying machine (okay, it was more like a stick figure with wings), I couldn’t help but wonder: where did the idea of human flight even come from?

That’s when it hit me — Leonardo da Vinci! The guy was dreaming up flying machines centuries before the Wright brothers took off. It got me thinking: what if da Vinci had never existed? How different would our world be today?

The Mona Who?

Let’s start with the obvious — art. No da Vinci means no Mona Lisa. Can you imagine a world without that enigmatic smile? Sure, we’d still have plenty of great art, but the Mona Lisa has become such a cultural icon that its absence would leave a pretty big hole.

Without da Vinci’s innovations in painting techniques like sfumato (that smoky, blurred effect), art might have taken a different path. Maybe we’d all be obsessed with super sharp, ultra-detailed paintings instead. Who knows, maybe the most famous painting in the world would be a hyper-realistic portrait of some random dude’s pet ferret.
