My name is Scarlet Aurora, and this is the story of how I got rid of a life I never wanted and found myself again. It’s a tale of pain, courage, and ultimately, triumph.

I was once a well-known escort, not by choice but by coercion. My husband, Adrian, was the orchestrator of this dark chapter in my life. When we first met, Adrian seemed charming and supportive. I was attracted to his confidence and the way he appeared to be interested in my aspirations. But shortly after saying our wedding vows, the real Adrian showed up. His love turned into control, his affection into abuse. At first, he would keep me away from other people and from my family, so that it was impossible for me to have anyone to discuss it with.

Adrian had a gambling problem and significant debts. He thought forcing me into prostitution was a way out of his financial problems. First, he promised to fix it soon, just until the debts were paid. However, it was not the case as the debts never disappeared and the temporary solution turned into the permanent part of the nightmare. Each night, I was sent to meet strangers, to submit to sexual exploitation by men who treated me as a mere commodity. And every night, I returned to Adrian, who would lay down the cash for me to count and then let out his anger right on me if it wasn’t enough.

The bullying was more than just physical; it also affected my mental health. He would put me down, imply that I had no value, and assure that I wasn’t attractive to anybody else. I trudged on in fear and humiliation for years, a captive to a vicious and abusive cycle, unable to free myself. In my heart, there was one little part that wouldn’t listen to him. And that one part made me feel like I could live to be another person and start all over again.

That hope started to come up when I met Emma, whose one of the clients I serve regularly. She wasn’t like the others – she was kind, empathetic and was really willing to know all about my health. Gradually I opened up to her about my situation. Emma advised me to get help and said she as my friend would be there for me. She made me trust in…
