As a New Writer, Expectation Could Be Your Worst Enemy
We always begin a journey with positive expectations.
We all want to succeed at what we do.
I started my online writing journey with high expectations. I thought once I published a story, many people would:
View my story.
Read my story.
Comment on my story.
Clap for my story.
Etc.
And I’d make a couple of bucks.
But the experience was rather different.
My first story on Medium, after 3 days, received:
Zero read.
Zero comment.
And zero highlights.
And this was the complete opposite of what I expected.
At this point, I felt like a man condemned to spend eternity in a desert.
Then I asked myself some questions:
Was I deceived that people are constantly waiting online to consume my story?
Was I deceived that I could make huge money writing?
Was I deceived that my unique voice is what the world is waiting for?
