Creating Meaningful Engagement on Medium?
A writer and editor's reflection.
As a writer and editor, I observe interaction and engagement on Medium. I find several writers love to engage with other writers. Other writers just write a post and leave it there without interacting with others.
Medium is a place where deep connections can be formed and slowly you learn about each other and they become your friends.
There is an art of making deep connections.
What is an impactful interaction?
There are three important ways we can make it impressionable and leave our happy mark with another writer.
🌹Clapping
It is heartening to note that some writers give full 50 claps. A writer feels happy that he has worked hard and has received all the 50 claps that Medium allows him from other writers.
Why oh why do some writers only give 1 clap, 5 claps, or 10 claps?
Next time you clap on an article make the writer feel special by happily clapping 50 times. Let them know you care for their writing.
🌹Highlighting
While we read an article some sentences stand out and stay in our memory. Why not highlight them? Give them their due. Moreover, you have read the article well when you highlight some of these sentences that are meaningful for you.
The writer also feels they have added value to their work and you have appreciated it.
🌹Commenting
No interaction is complete unless you make a relevant comment on another writer’s article.
When you comment on an article you leave a trademark that I have read your article and I have enjoyed it.
I enjoyed commenting on something that I was attracted to in your article.
Other ways to interact
- Let us not wait for another person to follow us first. Our constant interaction with some writers makes them special in our lives. We can follow them and get to know them better. When you follow the other writer will also respond and read and enjoy your articles.
- Genuine interaction is appreciated. Constant reading of each other's views makes you friends online and sometimes offline too.
- Support other writers by reading them and sharing an article and author you enjoyed reading with others.
- Reciprocate to writers who comment on your post.
- Finally put the right tags that describe your article and create a readership.
