Good editing, great editing and in between — what I’ve noticed

Editors are amazing and wonderful people. They give their time to help your work be the best it can be — and in turn, they are helping develop your skills as a writer.

Here on Medium, they donate their time purely to make your story as wonderful as the potential it holds.

Sometimes the advice they give can send you crying into a block of chocolate — but ultimately it will help push you to be a better writer — or they can make you jump for joy.

I was thinking the other day about the different types of edits I have received while writing here on Medium. I decided to write this to help those who are becoming editors and also help writers too.

I will be honest, it started out as a vent session on my notes app to help a slightly bruised ego — we all need our release — but editors are amazing and the more they bruise our egos, the better our writing will be.

I also have no other ideas for today so I do hope editors and writers alike enjoy this article.

I will share three types of edits I find helpful and three types I find unhelpful to both editors and writers.
