Feel Like The World Is Coming To An End? That’s OK.
But keep going…
Following the results of the US election this week, a lot of people are feeling… less than great, shall we say. And a lot of my friends kept trying to reassure me yesterday that things have yet to get really horrible, seeing as Trump won’t be in office until January. I’ve had people tell me that, because we’re in Europe, it won’t affect us that much, which is obviously true.
But I’m worried about everyone else. Everyone else who will be affected by this. I don’t have to tell who you who they are, because that should be obvious.
Pessimism VS Optimism
My friend Jason told me last night over drinks that I need to hold my head up high. Our friend George was depressed all day, and people kept telling him to cheer up. That things won’t be that bad and if they are, it’s America’s problem. ‘Chin up’, people usually say.
And I totally get that. I really do. I understand the need for optimism. I understand the need to look at the bigger picture, take a breath and get perspective.
But I understand the need to sit with your emotions and essentially wallow, too.
I think pessimism and optimism go hand-in-hand. Optimism should prevail, but pessimism is an equally valid and natural emotion.
