Feel Like You’re Running a Race on Medium?
Here’s How I’m Winning
By Barbara Martin
It’s a competitive world.
I see this mindset everywhere, from making more money to wearing the nicest clothes. Outward appearances seem to be overtaking what true value really is, and that is what is on the inside of each of us.
If life was a race I’d be left behind, choosing to forgo all those nice things. Yet in a way I’m winning my own race because I made my own rules.
So when I joined Medium I read all the ‘how to’ articles about what to write. It became obvious to me how the top writers achieved their status, and that’s when I became discouraged.
Did I really want to write like them, and assume such authority over their assumed expertise? They sure seemed to be selling a good show, but that concept didn’t fit with me.
I read articles about members earnings and how well, (or not) they were doing, and it was then I realized, do I care?
If I focus on comparing myself to others I’ll lose focus on myself.
And that’s when I knew my race was my own. To keep my attention on improving my own work and winning by writing what I enjoy.
And wouldn’t you know it, my race is turning out to be not only rewarding but more profitable than I…
