When I entered the platform of Medium for the first time, I was a complete no one with grand aspirations though. I was full of enthusiasm to write about self improvement and personal development but could not suppress my disappointment.

Would anyone care to read my words?

Would they find value in what I had to say?

These thoughts caused me to feel stressed in an emotional sense and due to this I experienced conflict within myself. However, I understood that if I have to succumb to the fear then I will travel nowhere.

Writing is not just about having something to say but it is about connecting with the right audience, I began to discover this. Therefore, for Medium, I had to take some measures that were out of my comfort zone. The first was to follow 150 people every day as a way to warm up the accounts to follow me back. And it worked! But beyond the numbers, I always felt that there was something beyond them, which is not tangible – there is always another side; the human side. This made me want to get closer to my readers and not just an audience obsessed with followers.

What made the biggest shift occurred when one became real with other people. Here, I will reply to articles on self-improvement with comments not only for the purpose of page exposure but for having something to say. I began engaging the audience with touching and inspirational thoughts in the comments of the posts, and they took it from there to notice me. This created trust and the more followers saw the value of the words I spoke and followed this account. Each interaction was useful and I was not just learning the numbers but the need behind those numbers.

Thus in sixteen days, I was able to get 530 followers. That was not magic-it was a simple combo of hard work and last but not the least, reliability. I did not act the part of someone that I am not. I expressed my emotions, transformation and willingness to support people to get over their obstacles.

As Robin Sharma said, “Small daily improvements over time lead to stunning results.”

This quote became my personal explanation. Each follower in turn meant the final product of constant and continuous work, and each comment or the article led me to the achievement of my goals.

If I consider the results in terms of quantity, I am satisfied, but what matters most in my life is the fact that having defeated my fears and mistrustment about people and emotions in order to share something like this with people so interested in self improvement as I am. If I can go from 0 to 530 followers, you can too, as long as you are willing and able to dedicate your time, have a plan and the right motive to follow others.

Here are three things you can do, to help me out:

1) Clap, comment, and share this story with people you think will find value in it.

2) Follow me.

3) Subscribe to get my stories directly per E-Mail.
