How Did Words Like 'Cool' and 'Dope' Took Over?
The Hidden History of American Slangs
A few years ago, while watching a Netflix series, I noticed that the word "dope" was being commonly used by teenagers. I wasn’t so familiar with this word before that.
Now, often remarking with "cool"Â , instead of okay or alright - was something that I grew up hearing since the days of middle school.
But never did I think back then, how did such words like “cool” and “dope” became such a big part of how we talk?
Nowadays, these words are almost used everywhere.
But the question is, where did they come from? That's kind off a big story actually. Although, I am planning to keep it short.
The Birth of “Cool”
I know it might be a bit difficult to believe, but the word “cool” has been around for centuries.
Yesss, I mean... it wasn’t always used for describing something awesome.
Back in the past, “cool” literally was used to mean only low temperature.
