The Inception of Love

As a seventh-grader, I loved reading my course book poems and would often try to recreate them, as well as write some of my own on topics related to my environment, such as childhood, mom, dad, and love.

An extempore essay writing competition was held at my school suddenly, prompted by our english teacher’s instruction to take a middle page from our notebooks to write a four-page essay on the topic: ‘Generation Gap: a boon or bane?’ Being a member of a three-generation family, I couldn’t have put it better myself.

To my surprise, it was an inter-school competition, and to the heights of my astonishment, I secured second place among the many students from schools across my hometown.

I got my first salary of 5000 INR. A little girl winning a huge amount purely for her writing skills deeply moved my Indian parents.

They decided to preserve it as a memento of my first salary for a lifetime.
