I’ve witnessed how BPD feels, understanding their struggle could change everything.
I Listened to People with Borderline Personality Disorder — These Are the Things They Wish You Knew
People with BPD battle overwhelming emotions. Here’s how you can offer real support.
It happened one Tuesday morning when I found my friend Devika crying on her bathroom floor. No one died; nothing catastrophic had occurred. All that had happened was that she had not heard from her boyfriend for three hours. To her, that might have well have been the end of the world.
Another time, my college friend Marcus called me at 2 a.m., shaking, convinced that his roommate hated him for not doing the dishes. I told him it was okay; nonetheless he ended up writing an apology note.
I don’t have Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). However, I have seen it first hand. Twice. In my observations, I can tell you that it is not simply “mood swings” or “drama”. It is a constant conflicted battle in the mind where rational thought is missing, and everything is emotion. This can be hard to reconcile with a world that is impatient.
