I Still Don’t Know What I Want To Be When I “Grow Up”
And it’s by design. Isn’t that cool?
You were asked this question when you were a kid… we all were.
“What do you want to be when you grow up?”
So now, let me ask you another simple question:
Are YOU what you WANTED to be when you grew up?
I was talking with my wife recently and the aphorism “Jack of all trades, master of none” came up.
This phrase is self-explanatory and has typically come with a negative connotation in my experience.
The implication is a person who is described as a “Jack of all trades, master of none” is talented or skilled in many areas, but not necessarily a “master” or an expert in just one area, and therefore is somehow less than.
I call bullshit on this.
Let me explain:
I suppose some would consider me a Jack of all trades because I’ve successfully worked in several related, and unrelated fields for decades throughout my career.
