I’ll keep writing no matter what happens. Here’s why you should too.
An artist focuses on creating art. Similarly, a writer must write.
- Your views are declining.
- Medium’s earnings are low.
- The article that took 2 hours to complete didn’t get any engagement.
- You don’t have new topics to write about.
We’ve all faced these circumstances as writers.
I used to write and publish daily on Medium, but the results disappointed me. I’ve heard from writers who’ve been here for a long time that the platform isn’t as it used to be. Many top writers have left and begun writing elsewhere.
It’s sad to hear such stories.
However, I’ve now realized that my priority is writing, not the platform. Sure, the platform is crucial in how your work reaches the audience. However, as someone who writes only because I love to do so, the outcomes shouldn’t matter to me.
Therefore, I’ve decided not to give much attention to views, platforms, engagements, and earnings. Instead, I want to focus on writing no matter what happens.
My goal is to create content and inspire people. I want to build a library of articles worth putting out there for the world to see, so I’m not quitting. I’ll write daily on Medium and try to publish at least a couple of stories weekly.
If you love writing, don’t let the circumstances stop you.
You should be able to write and practice your craft despite the outcome.
Some writers are here only for the money, and I completely understand their point of view. However, you are more likely to feel miserable when you get too attached to the results (earnings, views, and likes). That’s because you cannot always get the results you want.
Medium is a good place for writers to build a library of content. They can write about what they want and build an audience.
If, however, Medium isn’t the right place for you, you can always choose to switch platforms.
