Is It Really Necessary to Tell People You Are a Six-Figure Writer?
Why should I care? Oh wait, you are trying to sell me something.
Every now and then, I come across the “six-figure writer.” Just to be clear, I’m not calling out one person because I’ve seen multiple writers use this to describe themselves.
Of course, I have a few questions.
Here is the first question. What the hell is a six-figure writer? Are you talking about making six figures in your writing career, or is that how much you make each year?
I mean, making six figures over your writing career is not that impressive if you’ve been writing for any length of time. I’m not trying to humble brag, but I would fall into this category, and I’ve had a few lean years. Does that make me qualified to create an overpriced course and act like I’m an expert?
Now, if you are making six figures each year as a writer, that’s much more impressive. But then the question is, why are you telling random people online about how much you earn? Do you want to get robbed?
Oh wait, that’s because you are trying to position yourself as a “thought leader” or writing expert. You are probably the same type of person who shares all of those cheesy motivational quotes on LinkedIn.
