A Public Embarrassment Story
We all have that one memory….that pops up just when you are about to fall asleep.
An uninvited, unwanted and utterly embarrassing memory.
So, let me share with you, my memory of the day…when I turned a school assembly into my personal comedy of errors.
Gosh! what an embarrassment it was!!
I was in ninth grade, when I was riding high on my shiny badge as the head girl.
Public speaking came naturally to me, during those days ( or at least I thought so). I loved the mic, the stage, and so much of attention. However…life always has a funny way of reminding you not to get too comfortable.
A day before Women’s Day assembly, my teacher handed me a printed speech. “Memorize this by tomorrow,” she said casually, as if I was some genius who could mug up a whole speech…just like that.
To make things worse, my dust allergy decided to be an uninvited guest. I sneezed the whole evening non-stop and my nose ran like a tap. No anti allergent could calm the storm that was going inside my nostrils.
That night, while everyone slept peacefully…I sat hunched over the crumpled paper, while my eyes were watering.
