Breaking news alert — students cheat in school.

That’s like me writing an article about how water is wet or how the sky is sometimes blue. Cheating in school has always been around, but the methods are different.

Back in my day, I don’t remember ever cheating, but I also don’t have the best of memories. I know I didn’t ever study in school or college, so maybe that’s why I was often on the A, B, C, and sometimes D honor roll.

Anyway, this article isn’t about me. It’s about my cheating nephew. The other day, he told me that he uses ChatGPT to write articles. Of course, he also mentioned that he edited them to make it seem like he actually wrote the damn thing.

He even bragged that I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

So, he showed me one of his recent masterpieces, and you would have to literally be blind and stupid to think he wrote the article. The article might not have had any of the common AI words, but it was the most bland thing I’ve read since yesterday.

Unfortunately, I read a lot of AI crap on Medium and other articles that walk the fine line between writing and using AI as a “tool.”

Many of his friends also use AI, and you can even use it to solve math problems. I guess that’s more efficient than looking up the answers in the back of the book like I did back in the early 2000's.

Now, I seriously thought about writing him out of his family’s will or cutting off my relationship and disowning him. But then I realized I didn’t want to be the male equivalent of a Karen. Instead of blaming my nephew for being a cheater and making him take responsibility for his actions, maybe I should focus on the teacher instead?

Either the teacher is an idiot, or they really don’t give a flying, you know what. I have a feeling it’s the latter. She might not even read anything at all and is just there to collect a paycheck. Anyone with half a brain can tell if an article is AI or not, especially when it’s a student using the free crappy version of ChatGPT.

Most students will always look for a shortcut, so it’s up to the adults in the room to enforce the rules or take the easy way out. In my experience, most adults are just as lazy as students, so I guess it’s the circle of life.

How do you feel about students cheating, I mean using AI in school?
