Arshad Nadeem became a household name overnight by competing in the men’s javelin throw final in the Paris Olympics on August 8, 2024.

Why is this super important for Pakistan?

First, the timing couldn’t be better. The country is going through an economic crunch with skyrocketing inflation and challenging political and institutional conditions.

But, Pakistan never ceases to surprise amid its dire conditions. Pakistan doesn’t have a robust support system nor a reasonably good infrastructure in place to support sports and promote athletes at a ground level.

However, enduring all these conditions, Arshad Nadeem was able to pull through a gold medal competing with other athletes from around the world with a record throw of 92.97 meters to take gold in Paris while making an Olympic record.

As a nation, Pakistanis are celebrating this success and feeling proud as this Gold Medal comes after many years. Nadeem has given them hope to survive and excel in challenging circumstances no matter what. He has shown them the way when it was needed most.
