Random Spike in Views Was Due to a Bot Attack

(See below for Medium Support’s response)

The big increase in views from a few days ago is already old news, but it’s always good to know the reason for the issue. Initially, I thought someone was angry at me because I noticed the big increase in views the day before everyone else. (I promise I’m not really paranoid)

I reached out to Medium support to let them know what was going on, and they responded earlier today with an email saying it happened due to a bot attack. These random views didn’t impact our earnings but it’s never fun seeing a terrible read ratio.

I’ve included the screenshot of the email below.

I honestly appreciate the Medium Support team giving a detailed reply because it’s often rare to hear anything back from most websites. An open line of communication is much better than silence.

If you ever need to reach out to Medium, you can visit the “Help” page and click on “Submit a Request” at the upper right. You will also need to click through a few other buttons, but I’m sure you can figure it out.

Anyway, I just wanted to provide an update in case you were wondering what was going on with Medium. I heard somewhere that it was a glitch, but a bot attack makes more sense.

Hopefully, nothing crazy happens this week.
