Six months ago, I wrote about my morning routine, gushing about its effectiveness. It was producing consistent, daily results, seemingly without effort.

I won’t lie, it did work, it does work… but there was an unexpected variable that I couldn’t have noticed without the benefit of time.

What’s the point of a morning routine?

Morning routines, any routine, is basically a system of steps or behaviors you perform to get reproducible results.

Sometimes it’s intentional and sometimes it’s habitual.

Sometimes it’s a formula for success, and sometimes it’s merely a ritual.

Sometimes it has dramatic results, and sometimes it’s nothing short of superstition.

Generally, we’re performing our routine because we believe it helps us. Hockey players stop shaving during the playoffs, does anyone think it’s helping them win?

Productivity gurus prescribe grass smoothies, daily meditation and walking 10 miles before breakfast. Is that going to make you a millionaire like them?
