You can catch these red flags within the first few days of knowing your person and these warning signs are relevant to your relationships regardless of your sex, age or gender because toxicity does not discriminate.

Elements of control

Control disguised as love or caring about you will creep in early on. If you’re not sure whether this is what you’re looking at, just ask yourself if you are being given a choice or if you are subtly being told what to do.

What this person says is likely to be commanding instead of concerned or questioning.

If for example, you came down with the flu, someone who is trying to subtly control you would text you saying “Now take your medication.” With several follow-ups constantly telling you to do it.

If you question it they’ll probably fall back on caring about you so much that they just want you to get better, but notice how they’re not giving you a choice.

That’s control disguised as love, don’t fall for it.

Someone who cares about you would ask you if you took your antibiotics, but they wouldn’t start…
