The Brilliant Lie That Saved The Village- From Going To War
Turmeric, Chilli and some Acting..
My grandfather used to tell me different stories from around the world.
This is the one he told me about the small village that avoided war through nothing but quick thinking and lots of creativity.
It happened many years ago - in a village based in Rajastha, India.
A news came that the king's soldiers were coming to take men away to fight.
The villagers knew they cannot win a battle against trained warriors.
So…instead of preparing weapons , they came up with a brilliant idea.
One morning, the village healer began shouting about a terrible plague...sweeping through their homes.
Within a few hours, the entire town transformed into something, that resembled a bit like hospital ward of those days.
The farmers rubbed turmeric on their skin to appear sickly and pale.
Whereas, women hung chili soaked cloths near doorways to make everyone cough.
Even the children played their part pretty well. They began limping as they carried water from the well.
