The Disciplines of a Writer: Focus Like a Golf Pro

The Masters is on as I write this and I tuned into it online and have it playing while I write this brief article on a writer’s need to focus.

Am I a hypocrite?

No. I’m preaching to myself.

I enjoy watching a few minutes of golf here and there once in a while.

There’s always something on thanks to sports tournaments year round and YouTube. March Madness was before and I come across 5 minute edits of Seinfeld which are fun to watch.

Distractions are constant.

Take a lesson from the golfers at the Masters or any tournament. Look how close the crowds are to the tee box, around the greens and along the fairways.

The best golfers have to focus and not get distracted by crowds on every shot. Nothing else in the world matters to them.

The project you’re working on is like your tournament and deserves your focus.
