The Little Guardian Shield

Tale of a Cute Bravery

To make this story funnier to read, remember that my brother is 7 years younger than I am.

Nine years ago, a happy-go-lucky little brother, aged 10, loved to explore the world on a two-wheeler with his sister. We would roam the roads, eating a lot of junk food, carefree and full of fun.

Eve-teasing is common in India. One day, two boys passed by me on a motorcycle, making an inappropriate comment along with whistles.

“Oyeeee! (Hey!)”, my little brother shouts, stopping them. “Are you mad, you’re just a kid. Let them go, or else they’ll beat both of us.”, I said, but why would that young blood listen to me?

And alas! They stopped and came near us. They asked with a harsh look what the matter was, and then he said, “Behen hai meri, itna maarunga ki nani yaad aa jayegi. Bachha mat samajhna, ab jayega ya mukka maaru? ( She’s my sister, I will beat you up till you start remembering your grandmother. Don’t think of me as a kid, now would you go or shall I punch you?)”

And they left!

It was the best day of my life, knowing that all Indian brothers are the same for their sisters, no matter their age — even if they are 10 years old!

My brother, Adlakhamoksh when he was 10 years old.

I love you, bro.❤️

Warning: I am the sister of an overprotective Indian brother. 😄
