The US Presidential Elections: As President Joe Biden Drops Out of the Race …

My story has just been wasted.

My prediction was stated in my first article entitled: “Clash of the Titans”.

“The United States of America’s elections in November, 2024 will be anything but predictable. One truth would be predictable nonetheless. It is the unpredictability of the polls. It will be a ‘Clash of the Titans’”.

That would have been the opening paragraph of my story that had been dormant in my draft for sometime now. But that would no longer be.

Why?

The President of the United States of America and the candidate of the Democratic Party would not continue with the Presidential race. In a letter that has gone viral on social media, the incumbent President, Joseph Biden has withdrawn from the race.

He went ahead to endorse the incumbent Vice President, Kamara Harris to be the nominee. While this development could be perceived differently by different stakeholders, it had ruined and wasted my opportunity to complete my story on the political clash.

As situations stand, erstwhile President Donald Trump versus the Vice President (pending ratification by the Democratic Party) would not be as big and as competitive as Biden vs Trump would have been.

Secondly, the Democrats might decide to field a different candidate who could be much farther from the White House, as we speak. Again, ex-President Trump could have had a radically different kind of contest facing an incumbent, especially after his survival of an attempted assassination recently.

Interestingly, unlike the first time he was elected President, when he and Mrs Hilary Clinton were both neutrals, as there was no direct incumbency in the race.

Whatever happens in the November elections notwithstanding, the traffic that my story would have attracted, is now dashed and shattered. Thirdly, if I had written my story earlier: it would have been more of a dignified speculation which I had been trying to avoid.

Finally, the anticipated popularity and pride my story would have brought to me are all gone. This is a personal loss besides the wider range of local, national and international issues generated by the latest political twists and turns.

Conclusively, it is all the best wishes to the people and government of the United States of America. May the principles and values of democracy — predicated on the government of the people, by the people and for the people — never vanish from the surface of the earth.

Thanks for reading.
