February to March is tax season in North America. For my 15th year anniversary as a tax specialist, I decided to significantly expand this year and therefore would hire bookkeepers and one or two assistants to support the administrative part of the business.
When I posted the job on social media, specifically Facebook and LinkedIn, it clearly stated that it was a contractor position and the applicant needed their own setup as a bookkeeper.
I received multiple resumes, and the first thing I discovered was that most didn’t even read what was requested and didn’t even know what the company was about. How does one expect to get any job with this approach?
Anyway, based on my experience, I decided to hire all the promising ones, those who showed they had experience in bookkeeping for tax preparation. Within a week, three of them started working on one of the files I gave them.
