We Are the Last Generation Who Remember Phone Numbers

I still remember my grandfather’s phone number from 12 years ago. The same goes with our house landline number from my childhood.

I could still dial it in my sleep, even now... almost twenty years later.

But if you ask me what I had for lunch yesterday? I will be totally blank. Isn't it funny how our minds work?

Back then, our brains used to work like living phonebooks.
I memorised numbers like a squirrel hoarding nuts.

My dad’s work line, the local grocery store, my best friend’s house number.

That way, it used to be so much easier to dial number on landline, without opening the phonebook.

Then, smartphones arrived and everything changed. Contacts became these invisible things... almost floating in "the cloud."

Names replaced numbers. And on today’s date If I lose my phone, I will be completely helpless.

That's why I always make sure to remember my mom's and partner's contact number atleast, for safety.

But these days if you ask any random person, they will pull up their phone to check and find their home number. Now, that is still understandable.

The worst you will find if you ask any teenager these days to give an alternate number or an emergency contact.
Specifically, the kids who never saw the use of land lines, it's very difficult for them to remember contact numbers.
Basically, they never had the need to remember the numbers. It's not their fault.

So, I guess we are the last generation who had the taste of using those big landline phones and remember the phone numbers to dial them faster.

Oh! By the way...my grandma cannot find saved numbers from phones, so she still dials the numbers individually while calling someone.
This way, she automatically remembers some numbers very easily.

I can’t say, if it’s good or bad, to not remember phone numbers.

I guess..what is important is to not ever completely depend on anything fully... wheather it is any technology or any person.
