What Are You Trying To Build?
The Million-dollar Question Every Person Should Ask Themselves
I started quieting down recently, as I have been more observant and still than trying to yap, yap, yap.
Don’t get me wrong, being active and all out there is good. But sometimes, you need to slow down and be present — not just with others, but with yourself.
And one question this period has thrown at me is this:
What are you trying to build?
It’s so easy to get caught up in the chase of your greatest need.
For many of us, it is financial stability. For others, it could be comfort and peace. Whatever it is, there is always one thing that drives your whole existence at a given time. And we pour so much of ourselves into that thing.
If it’s an extra income, we devour courses, scroll through endless threads, and work tirelessly. If it is the desire to be seen, we work on our appearance, take confidence-building classes, and y’know…revamp.
But in all of this pursuit, it is only right to ask: What am I trying to achieve? Is this what I want to do? Is this what I want to be known for?
Is this who I am?
And more importantly: Is this who God has called me to be?
Because if, out of fear of uncertainty, you narrow yourself into a hole, when you know you could do more and be more, you are short-changing yourself, and ridding the world of the blessing the other aspects of you.
It’s good to build. But it’s better to build right.
Build right.
