FPV Drone Racing: A mix of e-sports and robotics is here.

Imagine fast-paced drones going through LED Obstacle courses at crazy speeds and precision of their pilots controlling their machines from a distance with help of their radio controllers and FPV goggles. This is no more a sight to dream of — this is a reality. FPV Drone sports are taking the world by a storm; featured in the world games as well as many TV programs and live events, such as the recent Sharjah race or A2RL Abu Dhabi.

In the world of FPV Sports there are many leagues, but the one that definitely stands out from the crowd is MultiGP.

Here’s why:

Driven by passion

Founded on the principles of accessibility, competition, and community, MultiGP has grown from local movement into the world’s largest drone racing league. With over 30,000 pilots across more than 700 chapters (which stands for local groups) globally, this league is the beating heart of drone sports. Best part? It’s open to everyone.

Some time ago we have interviewed a fellow pilot, Britny, who joined the league as a volunteer and is now one of the pilots in a mach1 team.

This is one of the points that sets MultiGP apart from everyone else: the people behind the organisation are passionate about the sport in question, and put the pilots on the pedestal. While many other leagues focuses on TV, stress, drama, and “making a quick buck” — MultiGP focuses on the pilots and their experience, which in turn translates to how the audience sees the entire spectacle and feels about the pilots.

People like watching other people — this is why we have social media

MultiGP understands that making things more personal gives the sport a fanbase that actually cares about the results of each match. There’s always someone to actually root for and support. Not only because “the drone has a nice colour” but because the audience can actually connect and emphasise with the pilots.

Which is what every great sport has.

The vision of success

MultiGP initial vision was simple:

To structure and promote drone racing activities that are fun, safe, and competitive. From humble beginnings, MultiGP has transformed into a global phenomenon, hosting events that draw competitors from around the world while nurturing grassroots chapters at the local level.

Central to the excitement is the MultiGP race format — a test of speed, skill, and strategic prowess. Pilots fly through complex obstacle courses made with gates and flags, racing against the clock and one another in a high-speed race. From timed trials, simulator events, and in-person events to head-to-head battles and team races, each format is designed to challenge pilots and entertain spectators.

Did it work?

Those factors allowed MultiGP to become the biggest and most liked league within FPV Drone community as well as the sponsors and potential collaborators.

MultiGP Sharjah — the best drone event so far

On 20th of April 2024 MultiGP gave a show in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. And this was one of the best events I have seen in a while (writer’s opinion). MultiGP made sure that audience understood what was happening, the pilots were introduced, commentator keept the score and the event offered attractions. We made a vlog from that experience which is available on FuturePlay YouTube channel.

MultiGP’s true strength lies in its community. A tight-knit group of enthusiasts, professionals, and newcomers, all united by a love for drone racing. It’s this community that fosters growth, supports learning, and celebrates every victory, no matter how small. This tight community has shown their true skills and possibilities during the Sharjah event.

“This was the smoothest and least troublesome FPV event I’ve seen.” — Lexie Janson.

How Can YOU Join the league?

Maybe you are Dreaming of becoming a part of this thrilling world? MultiGP welcomes everyone. Starting is as simple as joining a local chapter, finding an online race on the velocidrone simulator, registering for a race, or even just showing up at an event to learn more. The community is always there to help. With resources for beginners and platforms for seasoned pilots, MultiGP is your gateway to the FPV Drone Racing Pilot career.
