Back in 2022, the first time I saw ChatGPT generate code,
I remember thinking, that finally we have something that understands what a developer actually needs.
Simply because it meant I no longer had to waste hours typing the same boilerplate code over and over again and copy-pasting code from StackOverflow.
I was just praying, please let this tech stay, let it not disappear in a few months.
For someone like me, who writes code for a living, it was a genuine time and life saver.
It gave me enough space to focus more on logic, design, structure, creativity and all of that interesting stuff. The parts where my brain lights up and I get excited about. The problem-solving, not the copy-pasting.
But then the narrative slowly started to shift.
Doomsday scenarios, existential risks, everyone declaring that AI would replace humans, wipe out white-collar jobs, beginning of the end for many of our professions and basically make most of us obsolete.
We fear being left behind. We fear not being useful.
