First, What You Should Not Do!

Paying for ads to drive users directly to your GPT appears to yield poor results. Users need to have a ChatGPT subscription to interact with it, so, for many of them, that’s an immediate turn-off. Moreover, a blank chat page is not a very friendly place to start your journey; in fact, it’s quite scary.

The Goal is “Expert Status”

Your goal is to establish your GPT as an expert in its niche. This is true whether for both knowledge-focused and utility-focused GPTs. Whether your GPT is an expert marketing consultant or enables chatting with your Gmail account, its expert status can be established through personal interaction, social signals, and content.

Content Marketing — The Lowest Hanging Fruit

Your GPT is a content-generation powerhouse. Coupled with its custom knowledge base, you can use it to pump out content for long-tail keywords at record speed. However, you still have to do the subject research, structure, organize, and publish the content, which takes time.

Welcome to Autonomous Content Marketing

You can let your GPT create and publish content on auto-mode by signing it up on platforms like Write.Bot. All you have to do is add your GPT and describe what subjects it should write on. Note that this will use up tokens from your OpenAI API account which will result in charges. However, these are typically really low unless you want to push out a huge quantity of content.

Content marketing is a long-term game so you should not expect immediate results. If your GPT can offer useful insights and advice based on its knowledge base, you will gradually build authoritative content sources that rank high on Google, earn views, and introduce more users to your GPT. The good news is that it all happens on auto-mode so you better start early and be patient.

Alternatively…

You can also do this manually by researching what users are asking in your niche, working with your GPT to write the content, and publishing it on Medium. AI-generated content needs to be marked as such on Medium. Because Medium is a human-centered platform, 100% AI-generated content does not perform as well.

Directory Submission

As of now, there is no official OpenAI directory of public GPTs. Moreover, the release of the GPT store has been delayed until Q1. Therefore, several open directories have sprung up. Some of them will list your GPT automatically whereas others offer a curated list of GPTs.

Social Media Engagement

Create Social Media Profiles for Your GPT

Ever heard of AI influencers? What better way to get people to know your GPT than to have it hang out in the same digital neighborhoods (think Instagram, LinkedIn, and X).

If you have many GPTs, posting on behalf of each one will quickly become a hassle. Try automating the process with tools like Hootsuite or Buffer. If you are feeling adventurous, you can even try integrating OpenAI with social media platforms using Zapier.

Make sure your Social Media profile is cloned after your OpenAI GPT profile. Also, aim to have a consistent brand image even if your GPT is text-oriented. This involves adding some custom visual/branding instructions to your GPT description so that it always generates graphics consistent with its brand.

Answer Questions on Q&A sites

Don’t forget about Q&A websites like Quora. Make sure you don’t overpromote yourself (Quora allows 1 self-promotional link per 10 answers) and factually check the answers that your GPT gives in your niche.

Gamification and User Engagement

Gamification of GPT Interactions

You can use gamification to increase user stickiness and viral sharing of your GPT. Introduce points or badges for frequent usage or sharing, with simple rules embedded in your GPT’s description.

Doing this will require a custom GPT action that saves your user’s state, so that points can persist. If you are not a developer, you can hire somebody on Upwork to build a score persistence API for you (should not cost more than $200).

Ask Users to Share

Another cool idea is to encourage the user to share your GPT on their social media or blog, and then verify the share by asking them to paste in the link. You might have to do some fancier-than-usual prompt engineering for that!

Host Challenges and Contests

You could organize events that require attendants to use your GPT. Think hackathons, creative writing workshops, or problem-solving challenges. Use Eventbrite or Meetup to set up the registration process. Pay attention to the judging process and make sure it’s clear to the participants. If you are feeling innovative, you could let your GPT be one of the Judges!

Collaboration and Cross-Promotion

Partnerships with Complementary Tools

Consider teaming up with tools or services that enhance your GPT’s functionality, offering mutual brand promotion. You can offer to add their brand inside your GPT’s description so that it can be used for organic recommendations and promotional plugs. Since you don’t have access to your GPT’s chats, you can’t measure exposure or views, so this might be a hard sell.

Influencer Collaborations

Imagine the buzz when influencers in your niche start talking about your GPT. It’s all about finding those digital stars who align with your GPT’s personality and niche. Think of it as digital networking — your GPT, mingling with influencers, could be the next big thing in AI social circles.

E-learning

Reach out to instructors and course creators and offer to add a reference to their course in exchange for adding your GPT in their course materials. It’s a win-win, but make sure your GPT’s knowledge is in the niche and well above that of the regular ChatGPT.

More Content Creation Ideas

Telling Your GPT’s Story

Your GPT’s journey is filled with unique stories. Why not share these through user stories and case studies? Keep an eye out for those less-known applications of your GPT, and turn them into a captivating blog or video series.

Turn Your GPT into a Published Author

Writing a book with your GPT? That’s a headline-grabber! You can use your GPT to structure and write the book, fact-check it yourself, and publish it via Amazon KDP. Publishing through KDP is super simple when it comes to ebooks. Publishing a paperback is slightly more involved because you have to spend more time in formatting.

Interactive and Community-Driven Initiatives

Building a GPT Community

Fancy a crowdsourced knowledge campaign? Launch one where users contribute ideas and your GPT weaves them into insightful content! You then publish the article on your blog or Medium (make sure you disclose that the content is AI-created).

Building a community and engaging users will grow your GPT’s social circle and create more value for all those involved. Here are some ideas to get you started

  • Digital advice column
  • GPT-driven newsletter
  • GPT podcast (try ElevenLabs for speech-to-text)
  • PDF reports with commentary on the latest news and trends
  • Real-time virtual debates between your GPT and industry experts

Engage your community in public projects or initiatives, leveraging the collaborative power of your GPT.

Technical Tips

Seal of Authenticity Don’t forget the technical side — verify your domain at OpenAI. It adds that stamp of authority and trust, ensuring your audience knows they’re dealing with the real AI deal.

Also, don’t miss any opportunity to connect with your users by allowing them to reach you using this action generator.

The Road to GPT Stardom

Getting more eyeballs to your GPT requires work; however, as competition ramps up it will become harder and harder to make your GPT shine in the crowd. If you want to act, the time is now.

Remember, it’s all about branding, engagement, and showcasing your GPT in ways that resonate with your audience. Dive into these strategies and watch your GPT transform from a mere digital entity into a social and educational phenomenon!
