How Soon Will ChatGPT Replace Google as a Search Tool?
Will user efficiency and gratification displace the giant of search engines?
Google is worried. According to this article in the New York Times original Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page have been spending a lot more time at Google headquarters over the last month.
Page and Brin have taken a distant approach at Google for many years after stepping down from daily hands-on roles at the search engine giant several years ago. Prior to last month, visits from the founding duo were infrequent and mostly were to discuss long range plans and several moonshot projects.
According to the Times the reason for renewed founder attention is the development of a chat bot by a company called Open AI: ChatGPT. At its heart ChatGPT replies to written prompts with replies generated from processing massive amounts of data available on the internet.
Different from a search engine which goes out and finds the data and retrieves it displayed in a ranked and preferential order according to the search engine’s proprietary algorithm, ChatGPT goes one step further by distilling this information down to a single list.
