The issue of sexual assault has been an issue many people are trying to stop or prevent from happening. The issue of rape/sexual assault amongst the women in military catches the eyes of many as the military was established to defend and protect the people of the United States of America. People are now going after government officials in charge of the military hypocrites as they are allowing this issue to occur. The amount of underreported rape in the military is mind-blowing.

This idea of privilege and freedom is being abolished as the system to report prosecutors is unfair, leaving women with the confidence to report the crime.

Reporter Patricia Kime from the Military times released a survey taken amongst 170,000 troops. Among the 170,000 troops, approximately 20,000 reported they at some point in there deployment received at least one incident of unwanted sexual interaction. This statistic represents the 5% of affected women and the 1% of affected men.

The biggest issue is the amount of cases that go underreported and that is due to having to report to commanders in the military who are at times the prosecutors themselves or are friends with the prosecutors. With the lack of trust amongst fellow military appointees, the system is unable to protect those who are in need of help.

The military culture needs to take primitive action in changing it’s actions on bringing those who are guilty of these heinous crimes. In order to do so, society must look and understand the long term effects the rape culture has within the military.
