Write For Your Goddamn Life!
Some of us like to run. Some of us enjoy making miniatures of crime scenes. Some like riding motorcycles way too fast through traffic. And then there are the weirdos that enjoy writing. The latter two are me on most days.
My name is Christopher, and I am a writer. I graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Creative Writing, and another in History, and have been writing professionally (for money) ever since I set foot on campus.
I have been writing for money, and that’s the entirety of the story. Besides for school, and the at the random, “Need to get my creativity out,” I’ve never produced a work of fiction. Fiction, creative nonfiction, academic work, any of my photography, nothing. I’ve been working as a Copywriter and Social Media Manager (capitalized because I can) and not working on myself.
I mean, I’ve completed 3 flash fiction pieces, a word art compilation (that I’m still figuring out), 1 chapbook, 1 short story, and 2 half-written novels. Work and life have occupied my time, and I’m 26. I’m getting old. I’m closer to 30 than I am 21, my life is a quarter of the way complete.
This is my wakeup call. I invested the first quarter of my life into becoming a writer, trying to fill myself with the necessary skills, the words, the ideas, and now it is time to keep becoming a writer, but by actually writing. That’s where Write For Your Life comes into play.
This blog, or whatever it is going to end up being, is me writing. It’s not me writing for work, or for a paycheck, or for money, it is me sitting down and taking the time to create words for myself and my creative passion that I’ve worked so hard for. I will also discuss my journey with the publishing process, and my path as a freelance creative. But, I won’t do that first. Write For Your Life is about my works, and that is what will be posted.
As far as posting schedule and when I will write, I will take time every morning to sit in front of my computer and write until I have completed the exercise. I will be using prompts from The 3 A.M. Epiphany by Brian Kiteley as well as others that I find on the Internet. I will either include the prompt or where I found it at the end of the post. Sometimes, I will repeat a prompt, especially if I feel like I have more ideas than the one that was posted.
I am starting this ASAP! I’ll post every other day, which will give me time to edit these pieces, format, and post them. No content edits will be done, just grammar, removing awkward wording, fixing if I combined tenses, or just made up a new word.
I’m excited to embark on this process, and I am glad that you can be a part of it as well.
To get in touch with me for my photography or writing services, feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. My website with some of my writing on it can be found here. You can also find me posting pictures of my dog and food on Instagram, or find me on Twitter not doing anything. I also stream video games on Twitch, which is sometimes a good time.
