A Windy Day
The wind was humming past my ears
that wasn’t why we were out
Forcing us to stay at shore seemed like a crime;
we anxiously worked, but we didn’t mind
We were still by the lake
Repairing masts in the sun
our skin burned under the sun
The metal was hot to the touch
we anxiously worked, but we didn’t mind
We were working with each other
He told me that back in Italy, none of this existed
it made our work that much more fun
going out on the water even more fun
eating out afterwards even more fun
But we kept working
Only days before he had to leave,
leave the old canopy where we bonded
the filthy green lake that was his home
We still had each other,
But we still had to work
We hung out every day
seeing each other was a given
To think that might change
Didn’t cross our minds once
We kept working
