Like You, a Leaf

In the crook of a tree,

A leaf.

It grows from linen into cotton.

The owl, oblivious to it as he sleeps

is awakened by a deep navy magenta.

It pierces the sky, and like watercolour fans out to the clouds.

The blistering day subsides, cool breezes roll in.

The leaf, is tossed and ripped from the tree,

then floats to the forest floor.

Such is life.

Deliberately casting away all fear, again the sun rises.

The leaf, illuminated by bronze rays which

Conture its veins.

Pick it up, this specimen of nature

An individual and a part

The same, yet unique.

Such is life

a fortuitous encounter

For you too, are like the leaf

Soft as satin, coated in steel.

Thrown to the storm, consumed by the light.
